May 28-June 4

As part of ongoing discussions with the government of Sudan, U.S. Special Envoy for Sudan Rich Williamson arrived in Khartoum on May 28, 2008 for a weeklong stay. Special Envoy Williamson held talks with senior government officials of the Government of National Unity and the Government of Southern Sudan, including President Bashir and First Vice-President Salva Kiir. The purpose of the Special Envoy’s trip was to try and resolve the ongoing crises of Sudan’s Darfur and Abyei regions.
