U.S. Citizen Services
Notorial Services
Types of Notarials
Acknowledgement
An acknowledgement of execution is used for legal agreements, deeds, powers of attorney, and similar legal documents that will be used in the United States, or for documents that a U.S. citizen will use in Sudan.
Affidavit
An affidavit is any sworn statement made by you.
Certification of true copy
The notary certifies that the copy conforms to the original.
For the Consular Officer to notarize your documents, you must:
- Present government-issued photo identification, such as a passport.
- Understand your document and be able to explain it to the Consular Officer. The Consular Officer can not explain your document to you.
- Wait until the Consular Officer instructs you to sign the document. Do not sign the document until you are standing before the Consular Office at the Embassy and the Consular Officer tells you to sign.
Please be aware that the Consular Officer may refuse any notarial service when:
- The Government of Sudan does not authorize the performance of the service;
- The document will be used in transactions that may be prohibited by U.S. law;
- The Consular Officer believes that the document will be used for a purpose that is unlawful, improper, or inimical to the best interests of the United States.
Consular officers are prohibited from giving legal advice or acting as witnesses.
In most cases the document will be ready the same day.
Notarial fees are listed at Fees for Selected Consular Services
